Paycheck math Refund reality Tax brackets Public services

Estimate your tax picture.

Move the sliders. Watch how income, deductions, and withholding change the estimated refund or bill.

What is happening?

Adjust the sliders to see the estimate.

See how tax brackets actually work.

A higher bracket does not mean all your money is taxed at that rate. Only the dollars inside each bracket get that bracket's rate.

The top bracket is not the same thing as the average tax rate.

Refund check: free money or returned money?

Use the withholding slider to see the tradeoff. More withholding can mean a bigger refund, but less money in each paycheck.

A refund usually means you paid in more than the estimate. It can feel good, but it is not a bonus from nowhere.

Sort what taxes help pay for.

Drag each card into the best category. On phones, tap a card to move it between categories.
